Where to find it?
Because it's such a versatile material, you can find it in both physical stores and online platforms. Follow these guidelines to choose the right one:
- In art or ceramics stores:
Ask for "self-hardening mineral clay." The key is to ask whether it's a natural-base clay that can be fired in a ceramic kiln (up to 1000°C or higher). - Online stores:
Search for terms like "dual-hardening clay" or "natural air-dry clay."
Watch the label!
To make sure you're buying the right (Hybrid) clay, verify it meets all of these:
- Mineral Base: It should feel like real clay, not like plastic or foam.
- Kiln-Safe: The label must indicate a firing temperature range (e.g. 970°C – 1050°C), even if it also specifies it air-dries.
- Don't confuse it: Do not buy "polymer clay" (the kind fired in a kitchen oven), or any clay that explicitly says "Do not fire."
